SKYTICKER FIELD NOTES · OCTOBER 31, 2026
Is it really the same ticket?
A useful fare comparison starts with the itinerary you already own.
Start with the whole ticket
A round-trip confirmation can contain two flights, four connecting flights, or more. A one-way search result is not a replacement price for that complete ticket. Write down every flight in order and compare the full itinerary for the same travelers. If a provider presents separate tickets, treat that as a different product and review the implications with the booking provider.
Your baseline should be the flight-only purchase total for the complete ticket, including its taxes. Keep separately purchased seats, bags, and insurance out of that baseline unless the new quote includes the same items. A lower base fare can disappear when you add the services you actually need.
Use a matching checklist
- Airports and dates. Check the exact three-letter airport codes and the local departure date of every segment. Airports serving the same city are not interchangeable.
- Flight numbers and connections. Check every leg, not just the first departure. Airline marketing and operating carriers can differ; confirm the flights on the booking provider’s final page.
- Travelers and cabin. A quote for one adult is not a total for two adults and a child. Economy and premium economy are different cabins.
- Fare type and services. Match the actual fare brand and review carry-on, checked bags, seats, and change restrictions. A generic economy search result does not establish identical fare rules.
- Currency and total. Use the same currency and the final ticket total. Never compare points directly with dollars.
Read the timestamp
A recorded price tells you what a source returned at a particular time. It does not reserve that fare. Open the airline or booking provider and confirm that the price is still available for your exact itinerary before deciding what to do. The absence of a matching result also does not prove that your original fare is unchanged; the search may not have found comparable inventory.
How SkyTicker treats a match
The pilot requests cash quotes for the saved itinerary. Flight matching and fare-rule verification are separate steps. A matching itinerary may still need manual review for fare brand, included services, and credit eligibility. You can also record a fare yourself after confirming the itinerary. User-recorded observations are labeled as such.
For points bookings, cash quotes remain reference prices and are excluded from cash-savings calculations. SkyTicker does not turn a tax payment into a full-ticket baseline.
Keep a comparison note
Save the date and time, booking provider, itinerary, traveler count, fare brand, total, and any conditions shown. Avoid sharing passenger names, confirmation numbers, or payment details in public screenshots. That note can help you explain your question to your provider without implying that an old price is still available.
